Criticism
Criticism in essence is a scientific and artistic subject, found on top of the
hierarchy triangle of the three literary science; literary history, literary
theory and literary criticism. The first one may not be given the needful
interest, putting into consideration that the process of criticism is linked to
the nature of contextual social movements. The field of criticism is a work of
both ingeniousness and science, exceeding literature materials. It is not just
studying the literature through the scope of analysis and interpretation of
scientific discussion. Criticism, compared to the literary theory, is
characterized by its functional concept which concerns about the suggested
methods to study its literary genres; novel, poetry and drama etc. Theory and
Criticism are two closed and convergent activities that only intervene, not
integrate, every theoretical person can be a critic one, not the vice versa. The
literary theory is supposed to be semi-independent from the process of literary
criticism, where the first is a process of building an aesthetic philosophy,
while the second one is optional and applied one.
Arabic criticism has evolved with the cultural
development of the Arab communities in general, along with its social
development. It has gone through many unbalanced stages due to the different
social conditions that are not measured upon this. In the heritage criticism,
with its qualitative and quantitative materials, there are imagery high-level
skills found in both theoretical and applied levels. The stages in the Orient
and Northwest Africa that are geographically different are a mere source of
Arabic industry, but what made them rich in scientific and technical values and
widened its illustrative horizon is those different and divergent external
influences. Thus, the Arabic criticism like any other cultural criticism seeks
the cultural separation and expands when communicating with such cultural
separation.
Therefore, contemporary Arab criticism is
surrounded by extensive effects, and this is distinctive merit if it has been
dealt wisely. It is a scientific subject not yet separate then to start to form
intellectual theories without the denial of some focal point in this part. It is
not an exaggeration to say that the Arabic criticism marches in slow steps
compared to the other many critical studies in the world in regard of innovation
and application. It is good to provide strong professional efforts to widen the
scope of well-designed scientific studies in the fields of criticism and theory
in a way that may push ahead the critical development movement as much as
possible via independent identity and participated and active globalization.
